A practical starting point
How to arrange a brain perfusion SPECT scan
If you are looking for a brain SPECT scan, begin by calling Dr. Uszler’s office. You can describe the clinical question and ask whether this imaging pathway may be appropriate. Referring physicians, patients, and families may make the initial call.
Call (310) 428-7064 or email drspectscanoffice@gmail.com. Jean Cristofoli Uszler will explain the next steps. Please do not include patient records or sensitive medical details in an ordinary email.
Where is the scan performed?
Dr. Uszler does not operate a scanning facility. Jean coordinates the scan appointment at an appropriate Amen Clinics location. Amen Clinics performs the acquisition and transfers the complete DICOM imaging data to Dr. Uszler. Availability depends on the location and the study requested.
Who interprets the study?
Dr. Uszler, a nuclear medicine physician, personally processes and evaluates the imaging data, formulates diagnostic considerations, and prepares a written report for the referring or treating physician. His interpretation service is independent of Amen Clinics’ broader psychiatric evaluation and treatment services.
What question can the scan address?
Brain perfusion SPECT provides information about regional cerebral blood flow. In selected circumstances, it may add physiological information when symptoms persist after a head injury or when other clinical questions remain unresolved. It is considered alongside the history, examination, and other tests; a scan alone does not establish a psychiatric or neurological diagnosis. Watch the brief brain injury explanation.
What should I ask on the first call?
Tell Jean whether you are a patient, family member, or referring clinician, and describe the question in general terms. She can explain how scheduling, physician referral information, and transfer of clinical records are handled. Any formal consultation and its fee are discussed before work begins.
